Daily Money Management and BillPay For families looking to separate ongoing parenting from managing the bill-paying and costs of the adult dependent child, O'Connor Associates Inc provides monthly cash management and financial oversight of the adult child. This service includes teaching financial literacy to young adult clients whose disabilities otherwise interfere with daily money management. Over the years, we have served many parents who ask for relief or respite from managing the day-to-day financial affairs of a dependent family member. In most cases, the parent/child relationship, already frayed because of disability, has become further stressed by life long financial dependency. Parents want to recapture normalcy again by giving away the financial oversight (bill paying, counseling, property management etc) to a third party who does not let necessary financial decisions and plans get entangled in otherwise well worn behavioral patterns between parent and child. These services allow parent and adult child to remove the emotional contaminant of money in their relationship, providing respite for the parent and financial autonomy for the adult child. Lastly, the dependent adult child participates in a financial literacy and behavioral rehabilitation plan that prepares them for a future when the traditional financial support system (parent) is replaced with a third party. Aging parents request our help in creating plans for a future when they are gone and a 'stewardship' plan to manage assets and supplemental public benefits, and eventually ready the adult child for that future. |
