Case Studies of Custodial Services
Case Study #1 – Edna Edna is a 70 year old female with depression and secondary neurocognitive disabilities, who was living with a life partner for 20 years. Upon the death of the life partner, it was discovered that Edna and her partner, previously living in isolation, were living in squalor and had not filed taxes in 5 years. Subsequent to the partner's death, Edna experienced a relapse of major depression and was hospitalized. O'Connor Associates, Inc was hired by the executor of the partner's estate to inventory and negotiate the sale of the valued antiques, sell the partner's home, and provide a care plan for Edna. Her plan included ongoing care management following her hospitalization, filing of back taxes, and the creation of a discretionary trust to preserve her remaining assets and allow her eligibility for potential public benefits in the future. The savings generated through inventory and identification of valued personal property and the managed sale of her partner's home paid for care management services. Case Study #2 – David David is a 55 year old living with acute schizophrenia. David's remaining parent died a year ago, and he has been unable to settle the deceased parent's affairs and probate the estate. As a result of his illness, and subsequent exacerbation of its disabilities, he is living a 'shut in' life and unable to attend to his bills, his apartment, or his personal care. O'Connor Associates brought its entire team to probate the parent's estate, hire fiduciaries to manage remaining assets for David, and set up a property guardianship for him with a qualified third party. O'Connor Associates, Inc continued to provide follow-along care management to David to ensure maximum functional recovery from both the parent loss and health loss, as well as secured Social Security benefits and subsidized housing for David. « Back to Custodial Property and Transition Services
