Supported Education
O'Connor Associates, Inc provides individualized supported education services for students with psychiatric, executive functioning, or behavioral barriers to academic achievement. We traditionally serve students in a collegiate track (bachelors, masters, PhD, or JD) and but also help younger students complete targeted educational goals (i.e. GED, junior college, certificate programs, and vocational programs). Our service model provides person-centered counseling support and skills building to enhance self reliance. Our education plans are customized to meet the student's specific goals, abilities, and needs. We offer numerous options regarding assistance techniques and intensity to adequately meet the student's educational needs.

Our services & outcomes include:

  • Strengthening essential educational abilities
  • Providing information on various educational and training programs
  • Utilizing time and stress management techniques
  • Developing social supports in line with educational pursuits and within a normalized setting
  • Obtaining tutoring and mentoring services
  • Facilitating referrals and contacts with campus resources and various organizations
  • Completing college enrollment processes and obtaining financial aid and/or resolving past educational debts
  • Choosing areas of academic concentration
  • Understanding accommodation rules under current disability/civil rights law
  • Making positive educational choices

We take a systems approach to educational rehabilitation, actively integrating the student into his or her learning environment while coordinating medical or clinical care providers, families, and school resources (i.e. university disability support service departments). Through increased insight and development of practical skills, students manage their disability and enhance productivity and quality of life in a campus environment.
