Supported Employment
Supported Employment is an evidence-based vocational model of assisting an individual to choose, secure, and maintain meaningful competitive employment. O'Connor Associates, Inc provides supported employment services to its clients whose disabilities have interfered with securing or sustaining long term employment. Using vocational rehabilitation techniques and employer-based resources, we help individuals develop occupational identities and career goals, regardless of prior employment history or present barriers. Supported employment allows our clients to integrate into community living through employment and self-reliance.

Supported Employment Services Include:
  • Qualitative vocational assessment of the individual's skills, aptitudes, and abilities values, including adaptive strengths and limitations
  • Career counseling
  • Technical writing coaching, including resume, cover letters and employment applications
  • Communication coaching, including interviewing skills
  • Job development and job placement
  • Understanding disability-related employment law and its impact on hiring
  • Placement/separation processes, including the Americans with Disabilities Act, (ADA), Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and employer-based short and long term disability benefits
  • Job coaching and employer-employee relationship assistance
  • Ongoing evaluation and long-term support to maintain employment as long as the individual finds the assistance helpful
  • Ongoing job maintenance coaching and employer benefits management

At O'Connor Associates, Inc, we take a person-centered approach to vocational rehabilitation, actively engaging the individual client to develop occupational identity. Our focus on identifying a compatible work culture as well as individual abilities is central to producing meaningful outcomes for our clients. Orienting the vocational process on our clients' preferences, strengths, capabilities, and experiences helps reinforce a positive identity as an employee rather than an individual whose disabilities create disenfranchisment in the community at large.
